A Weekend In The Woods

Hustle, bustle, repeat.
Hustle, bustle, repeat.
Do you ever feel like you don't have a moment to relax? A moment of silence to even hear yourself think? To hear your children giggle?
Do you ever feel like you're so busy that you forget to watch your children? No, I don't mean like when they run out the front door without you knowing (that's never happened to me)... I mean actually watch them. Watch them laugh, watch them play, watch them have fun, watch them interact, watch their eyes light up as they make mud pies, watch them dip their little toes into a cold creek, watch them roast marshmallows over an outdoor fire, watch them as they hike to discover new things?
Sometimes putting away the phones, the iPads, the video games; getting away to a place where there isn't a television or cell service for miles is the perfect remedy to that over-busy feeling that can often take over our lives as we shuffle school, homework, sports, laundry, making dinner, etc.
We spent last weekend at a cabin in the woods & even without all the social networks to bury my face into, I've never felt closer to the world.
Sometimes you need to take a bath in the sink to wash off after you've crawled around in the mud. Sometimes you need to strip down to bare buns and take a little dip in the creek.
Sometimes you need to take a cruise on a 4-wheeler.
Sometimes you need to stay up late learning how to play poker and discover that you might really suck at it.
Sometimes you need to spend two days surrounded by nothing but trees, fresh air, and a handful of your favorite people.

Meyer turns 1

I probably say this every year on each of my kids' birthdays...but seriously! How has a year already come and gone before our eyes? How is my little 6# 7oz little tiny newborn baby a year old?
A year.
A year of smiles, laughs, cries, memories and milestones.
A year since we rushed into Labor and Delivery and had you in our arms an hour and a half later... (yeah that really happened). All I could do was apologize to your dad for you being born on his birthday, having to spend what was supposed to be our dinner date in the hospital...he reassured me over and over that you were the best birthday gift he could've asked for, and now I believe him.
You were our little surprise...in more way than one. Although Momma's intuition was right..I just knew you were a baby BOY.
A year of learning all your little noises and wiggles.
A year of adjusting to 3 kids.
A year of knowing our family was complete.
A year of never even remembering how life was before you.
A year.

And now here we are.
20 pounds and 30 inches tall.
Size 4 diapers.
Size 12-18 month clothes.
Crawling, standing and cruising...not walking yet (Momma is holding on to that a little longer)
Sleeping through the night...yes hallelujah after 11+ months of struggling he finally sleeps.
Sayin' some words like "dada" mostly, sometimes "momma", "ball" and his own version of "Sadie". And my personal favorite...if you ask what a doggie says; "wuff wuff!"
Two teeth is all you've got so far despite the drooling, chewing and cranky-ness...way less than your brother and sister had at 1 year!
Eating all the food Momma cooks, but your most favorite thing to do is secretly give the dog your food..
and still my little nursling..1 whole year, yay!
Loves to play with cars and trucks and drive them around.
Love to dribble and throw balls and has recently started practicing shooting in a little basketball hoop...we still have major hopes for your MLB/NBA career!
Meyer David you are silly, sensitive and sweet.
You have an attitude to boot.
You amaze me every single day.
Through all the fussing (and I mean a lot of fussing) I have enjoyed every moment of the last 365 days with you.
You were always meant to be in our lives, the most perfect fit to our family.
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
Happy 1st birthday my sweet boy!!
